4 Vegan Beauty Brands You Need to Know

Not long ago finding vegan beauty and makeup products was harder than climbing the Himalaya peak, especially if you wanted products that were ‘green’ and ‘eco’ too. Thankfully vegan beauty is having a major moment.

From mainstream bigger brands to niche indie ones, everyone is now offering the option of cruelty- and toxin-free products. In fact, the words ‘natural’, ‘green’ and ‘clean’ have garnered so much attention that most brands want to jump on the ethical bandwagon and easily plaster these words on their packaging, even though the truth maybe otherwise. Unfortunately, unlike the food industry the cosmetics industry is not regulated when it comes to labelling certain products as natural or organic. In a recent interview with the CEO of Gabriel Cosmetics, Gabriel De Santino shared that out of all the industries, beauty is the most notorious in the subject of ingredients. He says, “Even the most well-known and even so-called natural brands have nasty ingredients packed in their products—parabens and phthalates, artificial fragrances, and sulfates are commonly found even in the best of makeup and skincare products.”

For a lot of people, it’s hard to find beauty brands that do their part in taking care of nature, people, and their customers. When we turn the fashion magazines, we often come across celebrities’ raving about certain product as a secret to their flawless skin, for example Rihanna swearing by her Crème De La Mer in a video  on The Scene revealing her beauty secrets. Sadly, brands like La Mer are either very pricey or not completely cruelty-free. At the end of the day, it’s almost pointless spending large sums of money on skincare products that have chemicals which aren’t sustainably produced, and can potentially damage your skin and the environment.

So how do you know which ones to choose? To make your life simpler, we did some research and picked three beauty and make-up brands that are not only vegan and cruelty-free (in fact, they are also PETA approved vegan beauty companies) but will also help you to transition into a healthier, more sustainable beauty routine. Your skin will certainly be happier and more beautiful once you make the switch!

Bare Bones Body Care

If you go to your local drugstore, pick up a random bath product and read the label, you’re more likely to find more ingredients that you don’t recognize than ones that you do. There’s a danger in not knowing exactly what goes into your products and how they’re made. Beauty experts often recommend that if you can’t pronounce it, you probably don’t want to put it on your body.

Thankfully, Bare Bones Body Care takes all that worry and uncertainty by being completely transparent in their production process and the ingredients they use to make everything. The woman who started it all made it big by minimizing the number of ingredients per product, making them right out of her kitchen, indicating that fancy processes and chemicals are completely unnecessary when it comes to your beauty regimen. The fact that all their range is also vegan and cruelty-free is the reason why they’re on top of our list!

While the oval brush set from Anastasia Beverly Hills is a dream come true for makeup addicts, the synthetic fibers of the brushes don’t mean they’re vegan. As amazing as the oval brushes are in application, brushes from brands like EcoTools work just as well to provide the coverage that you need. This eco-friendly and cruelty-free makeup brush  brand offers a wide range of brushes and their bristles are so soft on your skin that you wouldn’t believe its animal free. Eco Tools’ beauty range also includes hair brushes, fake lashes, and bath and spa essentials.

Founded by the activists behind the online journal Slow Beauty, SpaRitual came to life in 2004, a time when the green beauty movement wasn’t really a thing. It was then that they launched their nail color and care collection, the first ever vegan products in the category. Over the years, SpaRitual’s 5-free and vegan nail polish range has gained a loyal customer base all over the world, because not only they offer a clean nail polish range, but the performance and range is also top-class. While they are largely known for their nail varnishes, SpaRitual also create a variety of skincare products that moisturize, fight signs of anti-aging, and others, such as soak tonics, lip balms and hand. Beautiful skin and beautiful nails – makes a happy female!

Brainchild of health and wellness goddess Karen Kung, NAVEEN’s range of natural and organic skincare includes everything from anti-aging to everyday skincare and even has a gentle line for mothers and babies. When Karen couldn’t find pure natural beauty products that delivered high performance results she decided to take things in her own hands and started Naveen – a skincare company that mirrors her principles of clarity, honesty and responsibility. Their range of personal care products are 100% vegan, certified Halal, free of chemical preservatives, artificial fragrances, silicone and of course are cruelty-free. Keeping their clean ethos in mind, the brand ensures all it’s products are packed using eco-friendly and biodegradable materials. We love their Chamomile range, which is suitable for the most sensitive skin and swear by the anti-aging eye cream.
