Sustainable Gowns Hit The Red Carpet At Oscars 2017

Sustainable fashion took the spotlight at Oscars 2017 with some of the biggest celebrities taking the eco route to red carpet in their custom-made gowns crafted from recycled polyester to zero-waste reworked vintage.

Here are some of our favorites from the Academy Awards Red Carpet looks all sending a strong message that ethics and fashion can go together. We just need to make take the step in right direction {in this case voting green with our credit card}

Fashion darling Rooney Mara hit the carpet at the 2017 Vanity Fair Oscar Party in {no you couldn’t have have guessed it} a plissé pleat gown designed by H&M Conscious exclusively for the actress. Her powder pink gown is crafted from BIONIC® – recycled polyester made from recovered shoreline waste.

Spreading the message of sustainability and highlighting the global water crisis sartorially was none other than Miss Universe Olivia Culpo wearing a custom Marchesa with a cause. It was not a regular haute couture piece but was created in partnership with and Stella Artois’s Buy a Lady a Drink Campaign to educate the world about the water crisis and provide five years of clean drinking water to someone in the developing world for every Chalice purchased. The gown was created taking inspiration from water and uses glass beads handmade from the iconic Stella Artois chalices themselves.

Other Sustainable Endeavors at Oscars 2017

Mara and Olivia weren’t the only ones wearing promoting sustainability at Oscars. As part of Red Carpet Green Dress (RCGD) initiative, ‘Lion’ Actress Priyanka Bose and Emma Roberts hit the red carpet looking glamorous in their eco conscious gowns. Founded by Suzy Amis Cameron, RCGD is a positive fashion campaign which challenges designers to create red carpet worthy eco-friendly dresses, which are then worn by the celebrities at their respective events, Oscars being the biggest of them!

Emma Roberts chose to be clad in a stunning vintage Armani Privé gown for the Oscars. We hope both of them will take a step ahead next year and will marry cruelty-free with their eco agenda!

Whose look do you prefer the most?

P.S. We aren’t sure about their choice of accessories – bags and shoes, whether they are eco and cruelty-free.
