Styling World’s First Vegan TV Show: Ethical Fashion Head-To-Toe

The second season of World’s first vegan TV show, Plant Based by Nafsika, aired its first episode on 26th July and will continue every Wednesday at 7.30am on FYI channel (A&E network, USA). This season is bigger, better and more glamorous.

While adopting a vegan diet is a great step towards animal welfare, vegan lifestyle should not be restricted to just diet. It’s a lifestyle choice that should be a part of all aspects of our lifestyle. This is why, on her TV show, Nafsika brought together vegan experts covering different faces of cruelty-free lifestyle – food, nutrition, wellness, relationship, science, and fashion.

When you switch to a cruelty-free lifestyle, it’s important that you make conscious choices not just about what you eat but also what you wear. The fashion industry is infamous for its cruelty towards animals, exploitation of labor and degrading the planet. Fashion brands liberally use leather, fur, down, wool, silk, and other animal products in their collections.

Fortunately, with increased awareness of the ugly side of the fashion industry, a new breed of ethical and vegan brands is cropping-up who are changing the rules of the game. This has made it easier to find ethical products that don’t compromise on style or ethics. Unfortunately, ethical fashion is still not synonymous with chic. Even today people stereotype ethical fashion as ‘dowdy’, ‘hippie’ or ‘boring’.

The new season of Plant Based By Nafsika wants to break these stereotypes and change the perception about ethical fashion. Co-founder and head stylist of Address Chic, Shruti Jain, styled this season curating the best ethical and vegan brands from across the world. From high-fashion luxury vegan brands to affordable ethical clothing – this season has got something for every style and budget.

In fact, this season’s wardrobe is a step ahead of vegan fashion. “Vegan fashion is about more than just eliminating the use of animal products. For fashion to be truly cruelty-free it must abide by the principles of ethics and compassion not only towards animals but also the people and the environment. From the treatment of staff to the use of eco-friendly materials in the production to social responsibility – everything needs to be considered,” says Shruti. “This vegan TV served as the opportunity to show how stylish an eco-friendly wardrobe can be.”

Here’s a breakdown of all the looks of Nafsika from the show, clad in head-to-toe vegan clothing, shoes, and accessories curated from ethical fashion brands from around the world – US, Europe, Australia and Asia.

In the first episode, Nafsika is wearing a classic LBD. To give it a playful spin to this wardrobe staple, we paired it with a broad belt to add definition and teamed it with our favorite vegan red pumps to add a pop of color.

Episode Two: Pop Of Color

There’s nothing quite like a bright color for lifting your mood, and with this beautiful lace-insert skirt we found the winning combination. To show how can you transition your summer outfit to autumn, we paired this outfit with luxury vegan ankle boots. Until she tried this, Nafsika always thought yellow is not her color. When it comes to fashion, you need to experiment and step outside your comfort zone for creating winning looks.

For the yoga segment in the second episode, we styled Nafsika {right} in an organic cotton top from eco-friendly activewear brand from Indonesia – Eleven 44.  Wearing breathable fabrics is very important for good skin health, especially when you are working out. Her yoga pants/leggings are from sustainable activewear brand Yoga Democracy and are made from recycled fabrics. They come with UPF protection too.

Episode Three: Ethical Is Glamorous

Who says ethical fashion is not glamorous? The third episode of Plant Based By Nafsika features a special guest who talks about vegan fashion and also presents stylish ethical fashion looks on vegan models and bloggers. This episode also brings in a vegan dating expert and author of Vegan Love. We wanted to create a sexy, glamorous look for this segment and this one-shoulder dress with asymmetric ruffle and front slight fit the bill perfectly. We kept rest of the look simple and paired it with red heels.

For the second look of the third episode, considering that Nafsika was addressing a Doctor, we had to go away with glamor and bring in a more serious vibe to her outfit. We wanted to do something that’s smart and effortless so we stuck to the basics – white shirt, black denim and black peep-toe heels. However, we played it up with a white sleeveless blazer, a V-choker (stands for vegan) and a long pearl and metal necklace. Same wavy hair finished the look.
